Suvarnaprashana is given to the children to improve multiple aspects of their health and wellbeing like physical growth, psychological growth, intellect, immunity etc. Ancient Ayurveda scholars had included it right under the [[Jatakarma (जातकर्म)|Jatakarma samskara]] owing to which the child will be fed with this from birth itself allowing maximum possible administration and effects. The benefit of Suvarnaprashana discussed by ancient Ayurveda scholars have been described below.

The clean and pure gold in metallic form was used earlier to rub on a clean surface and get the particles of gold from it. These particles mixed with ghee and honey were given in the linctus form as a suvarnaprashana dose. The benefits of such suvarnaprashana are stated by Acharya Kashyapa as below,<blockquote>सुवर्णप्राशनम् ह्येतत् मेधाग्निबलवर्धनम् |
आयुष्य मङ्गल पुण्यं वृष्य वर्ण्यं ग्रहापहम् ॥ मासात् परसमेधावी व्याधिभिर्न च धृष्यते |
The specific benefits of Swarnaprashana according to the duration of administration have been mentioned such as: • If administered for 1 month, the baby will become Parama Medhavi (highly intelligent) and Vyadhibhir Na Cha Drusyate (will not be affected by any disease) • If administered for 6 months, the baby will become Srutadhara (will be able to remember the things, which are just heard).

Sutra 18.26-27)<ref name=":12">Kashyapa Samhita (Sutrasthanam Adhyaya 18.Sutra 26-27)</ref></blockquote>Meaning: It increases Medha (intellectual power), [[Agni in Ayurveda (आयुर्वेदे अग्निः)|Agni]] (digestive fire), [[Balam (बलम्)|balam]] (strength). It acts as a potion which enhances longevity, auspiciousness, virtue and vitality. It improves complexion, removes infliction of mind by evil forces.

* Increases physical strength, energy and immunity
* Promotes longevity
* It is auspicious and pious too(positively affects body-mind-energy complex in a human)
* Enhances vitality, vigor and strengthens [[Shukra Dhatu (शुक्र धातुः)|Shukra dhatu]]
* Improves skin colour and complexion
* Eliminates grahas which indicates protection from disease causing microorganisms and evil energies affecting mind. Which means Suvarnaprashana can strengthen and protect physical as well as mental components of health
Along with this, Ayurveda scholars have also studied the effects of Suvarnaprashana given for a specific duration. Based on that, what results its shows when taken for a specific duration of time have been stated as below,

* If administered for 6 months, the baby will become Srutadhara (will be able to remember the things, which are just heard).
