Upanayana (Samskrit : उपनयनम्) is one of the most significant of the [[Educational Samskaras (विद्याभ्याससंस्काराः)|Educational Samskaras]] as well as the sixteen Samskaras. It marks the entry of the initiate into the most important journey of life, the first of the four Ashramas, namely the [[Brahmacharyashrama (ब्रह्मचर्याश्रमः)|Brahmacharyashrama]]. The connection of the Saṁskāras with Varna and Āśramas in the sense of duty has been established by many authors and historians.
