Eclipses have been mentioned and described as caused by Svarbhānu or Rāhu. The Ṛgveda (5. 40. 5–9) describes an eclipse of the Sun as brought about by Svarbhānu. The Tāṇḍya-brāhmaṇa (4. 5. 2; 4. 6. 13; 6. 6. 8; 14. 11. 14–15; 23. 16. 2) mentions eclipses as many as five times. Eclipses have been mentioned and described as caused by Svarbhānu or Rāhu. The Ṛgveda (5. 40. 5–9) describes an eclipse of the Sun as brought about by Svarbhānu.[1]
