According to शब्दकल्पद्रुमः ॥ Shabdakalpadruma, <blockquote>इज्यतेऽनेनेति यजुः || ijyate'neneti yajuḥ || </blockquote>Meaning: performing of यज्ञ-s || yajnas using this (mantra) hence called यजुस् ॥ Yajus.<blockquote>अनियताक्षरावसानो यजुः ॥ aniyatākṣarāvasāno yajuḥ ॥ </blockquote>Meaning: that which has no regulation (metrical) of letters is called Yajus.<ref name=":2232222" />
