== Concept of इत् ==

* महर्षि-पाणिनि has defined and used some tags for effective application of Sutras.

* The technical term in अष्टाध्यायी for these tags is इत्

* We have already seen one such application. In माहेश्वरसूत्राणि the last व्यञ्ज in each sutra is इत् अ इ उ ण् । ऋ लृ क् । and we have seen the application of this इत् in the creation of प्रत्याहार

== Definition of इत् ==

* उपदेशे अच् अनुनासिकः इत् - In व्याकरणशास्त्र, अच् (स्वर) that is अनुनासिक is defined as इत् ।

Eg : सुँ, ओँहाक्, वदिँ , वदँ , युजिँर्

* हल् अन्त्यम्- The हल् (व्यञ्जन) at the last postion is defined as इत्.

Eg : सुप्, तिप्, ङीष्, ओँहाक्

* न विभक्तौ तुँस्माः - in case of विभक्ति-प्रत्यय (सुप्, तिङ्) , तवर्ग, सकार, मकार in the last position should NOT be considered as इत्

Eg : जस्,भ्याम्, भिस्, तस्

* आदिः ञिटुडवः - ञि, टु, डु that are found in the beginning of a धातु are defined as इत् ।

Eg : ञिमिदा , टुनदि , डुकृञ्

* षः प्रत्ययस्य - ष् that is in the beginning (आदि) of a प्रत्यय is defined as इत् .

Eg : ष्वुन्

* चुँटूँ- चुँ(चवर्ग), टुँ (टवर्ग ) that is in the beginning (आदि) of a प्रत्यय is defined as इत् .

Eg : जस्, ञ्य, च्फञ् , ट, ड, ण्यत्

* लशकुँ-अतद्धिते - ल् श् & कवर्ग that is in the beginning (आदि) of a प्रत्यय (except तद्धित-प्रत्यय) is defined as इत्

Eg : ल्युट् , शि, शप्, क्त, क्तवतुँ, गस्नु, ङे, ङस्
